the petals of this flower are all hanging on. it's the last flower in my vase, you can see it's old, decrepit and well past its time, but it is still showing strong colours.
it's kind of like how i feel -- old and decrepit. these days it's how i feel. then i get to see people older than me who run marathons, lift weights and go to the gym on a regular basis. well, today, i was in a marathon. as in eating marathon. and the amount of leftover i brought home (it's a filipino party, what else!) is enough weight lifting for me.
it's ironic that in the old country, today (which is called "black saturday" when the lord is buried and we await his resurrection) is a continuation of fasting and here we are eating till we were blue in the face and about to explode. i am sure to go to hell -- all those seven deadly sins having been committed today. well, except lust, i'm old and decrepit, remember?
cool shot of a still interesting flower - and yes, Holy Saturday is a time of continuing sorrow waiting for the joy of Easter Sunday in most Christian traditions -
Your shot is perfect for your narrative. The flower does show signs of age but the bright and vivid colour and the proud upright (but slightly stooped) posture belie the life still left in it.
Lust could be defined as a craving, not necessarily sexual so… Perhaps you filled that deadly sin after all.
My daughter had a very good friend in college who was Filipino and I remember the vast amounts of food they used to provide for any kind of a special occasion. I had forgotten about that until you mentioned it.
Your flower looks neither old or decrepit And neither do you! Like you, your flower is still full of beautiful color with lots of interest!
I just love the daily stories from you Vikki. Such a gift of expression and way with words. As one wordsmith to another, you're pretty darned good girl, old and decrepit or not.

Thanks for learning me a new (old ;)) word 'decrepit'. I'm never too old to learn ;) I like the metaphor.
