lights! camera! action!

there's a bollywood movie being filmed across the street at the manor. that red car had been in there for days now and they've been filming around it. at night they move to the back and the lights are so bright they filter through curtains and apparently some tenants along with the condo owners in the condo beside the manor have been complaining. good luck with that.

hide and seek, it's this week's theme over at five plus two. check us out: https://365project.org/fiveplustwo/365/2021-06-02

When I was younger, I dreaded seeing Indian men wearing turbans. I always assumed they were Sikh Indians and seeing them reminded me of the assassination of Indira Ghandi.

While working and living in Muscat, Oman, many of the people I knew, even the friends of my boss and his wife, would try to set me up or match me up with a guy they thought was perfect for me. One day my British officemate, Christine, said she and her boyfriend are going to have a dinner and she set me up with her boyfriend's friend on a blind date. I had reluctantly agreed. The day before the dinner, our accountant and our driver came to my office to tease me because they found out from Christine's telephone conversation that I was going on a blind date with one of their countrymen. I was surprised because I had thought that since Christine's boyfriend was also British that his friend was also British. The accountant and the driver assured me that 'Rajid' was a very kind and trustworthy man.

At lunchtime, I was preparing a report for our head office when I heard conversations in the hallway. A few minutes later, Christine and her boyfriend Bob and an Indian man wearing a turban came into my office, unannounced. Bob introduced me to Rajid. As I stood up to shake Rajid's hand, it was obvious he was sizing me up. 98% of the Filipinas working in Oman were either domestics or nurses. There were only 2 of us working in an office, the other being my friend Leslie who worked at the Palace catering. After a brief chat, Christine reminded me of our dinner date that night. I gave her a nod and waved them off.

We had a long lunchbreak in those days. I normally would go back to my flat at 12:30 and come back at 3:30. I ate everything I could stuff in my mouth that I knew would give me a bad stomach. So that when I came back to the office, I was sick like a dog and throwing up in my wastebin. Christine was very disappointed, asking me, "So do you think you'll be able to come to dinner tonight?" and I replied, "Sure, we can even go ballroom dancing if you like." Her face was conflicted, wondering if I was joking or just being sarcastic. It reminded me of my boss telling me one day that he didn't like English women because they were a bit slow in the head; his wife was Japanese.

As I couldn't drive myself back home, my boss whose wife happened to come by the office that afternoon, decided they will drive me home. During the car ride, Mrs. B told me she was sorry I would miss my dinner date. My boss laughed, he said I wasn't the type who would date an Indian man. We had in the past discussed about Indira Ghandi's assassination. I told them, I really didn't mind going on a date with Rajid. So why did I make myself sick to avoid going? I told them that I changed my mind when Rajid and I shook hands. Mrs. B didn't understand, while my boss and I said at the same time: 'limp handshake'.

I'm sorry, I cannot tolerate and I cannot trust any man who has a limp handshake.
How interesting

I'd have to agree about the limp handshake! Can't believe people do that. It indicates a very weak character, I think! Something to watch out the windows!

A great capture of the break in the action. The car shows up very well against the dark stonework.

You have a great view. I've been doing jigsaw puzzles on line and I think this would make a great jigsaw puzzle. There's so much going and and it's all so crisp. And, again, your story is so entertaining.
