unless you lose them. i don't know what the big deal is with diamonds. i knew of a girl who refused her boyfriend's much-awaited proposal because the ring he gave her was only less than half a carat. she cried for days; she said it was like an insult. she felt depressed for a long time until the new girl in the office told her she had been waiting for her diamond for more than ten years and she didn't think it was forthcoming. she told the younger girl, better a small diamond in your finger than nothing at all.
i couldn't think of anything to macro for today's prompt, so dug in the old jewelry box to find something and took the first thing that caught my fancy. i even tried this one on!
Wowsie! A superb low key shot!
Frankly, I never got the idea of the diamonds. And your story is hysterical, to say the least :D :D :D If that girl never married, at least her stupid is not in the gene pool. :D
@monikozi - true that! you know the women here, when one says 'i'm engaged!' the first thing the others would say is 'show us the ring!' and then they would gush and scream and giggle. then they revert to 'mine is bigger, mine is expensive, mine is prettier'. soooo petty and pitiful. meanwhile, i have two engagement rings in my stash and i don't even wear them. i've told one of my nephews that when he's ready to propose to his girlfriend, i will send him one of my rings. make the darn thing an heirloom to make the most of its ridiculous value. frankly i'd rather wear pearls.
Heheeee... That's so stupid!!! (the ring showing)... But yes, that's the level of the depth of feelings. I gave up even my wedding ring because I found it pointless. And because my fingers started swelling.
Your photo of this ring is gorgeous! And so is the ring. it is not easy to do jewelry well but your use of low-key seems to be a perfect solution to that.
I find it a little absurd that someone who is dying for a ring would complain about the size of it once she got it!
I got a small diamond when we were engaged. My husband had a SIL who kept trading in her diamond engagement ring for a bigger diamond. He bought mine with money he borrowed from his parents and told me he expected me to keep it always. I've still got and wore it all the time until this winter.
@summerfield My hands got very dry and the finger became quite irritated. I had to take the rings off so the finger could heal and never put them back on. I need to do that I guess.
@randystreat - that's what happened to me a long time ago. i love my rings but it is so inconvenient to have them all the time because my skin is so dry when i wash my hands i need to put on a bit of lotion. so i just stopped wearing them. i'd wear the really good ones when going out with friends or at office parties. sometimes i don't even care if i have bling on. they're nice photo props though.
