also for week 43 of the peter forsgard's 52 assignments, the assignment is 'shadow'.
that's i and my sister when we went to that big park by the lake last sunday.
the lady operator of the bus that took us to the park was very friendly and very helpful, pointing to us which way to go to see the best part of the park. coming back, the bus that was there did not wait for us even though we were literally hopping and running to the stop to catch it. fortunately, another bus came about 5 minutes later and to our delight and surprise, it was the same bus. the lady operator greeted us with "welcome back, it's good to see you again. did you enjoy your walk?"
there are a lot of the drivers/operators of our city transit who are quite arrogant or mostly they just want to do their job and get on with life and would not go the distance. i like to give kudos to those who try to go the distance in helping people, or just generally being nice. so what did i do? i wrote to the transit company, commending the bus operator for her enthusiasm on the job and her polite demeanor and eagerness in helping out her passengers. i appreciate that other drivers may be as helpful or as enthusiastic as this lady operator, but the difference is the customers don't normally write letters of appreciation or commendation when they receive good or excellent service. even in the office, if one of the mailroom staff or catering staff does a good job especially for the convenience of our clients, i do send off a commending memo to HR. in the past i would even encourage my bosses to write commendation memos where i deemed it warranted.
Great shadow portrait and a good idea to write that note- you never know what difference it will make. Our supermarket used to have a place where you could comment on the cashier who checked you out. I did that quite a few times. So I hope the TA gets your compliment back to the driver. I'm sure it will make her day.
