My name is Anne and I'm a hostaholic .... well, not as addicted as some, but we do have quite a few. This variety is Whirlwind, and even with a name like that, it needed some sprucing up for those who are not afflicted with the same addiction. Freddy has a place of honour on our bathroom counter when he's not out galavanting in the garden.
Love your sense of humor. You would have liked the Newport Flower show where one of the categories was hostas. You had to enter three different hosta leaves in different colors and sizes in one vase. There was quite a variety.
i thought at first this frog was real! ha you and all your wildlife around your place, hostas are so nice, the best is they just keep coming up everyyear
Hosta queen sounds so much better! I have a hosta garden that is dedicated to the poet Stanley Kunitz, who was also an amazing gardener. I interviewed him twice, once when he was 96, and then again when he was 100.
@june Thanks June! I have lots of slugs but they don't bother the thick leaved hostas. There are a couple of older varieties with thin leaves which get eaten badly. The slugs are also hard on certain annuals like petunias, which I don't even buy anymore. Sometimes, especially after a rain, I go around the yard with a zip lock bag and pick all the slugs I see and seal the bag. and throw it away. I suppose I should leave them for the birds .... ;-)
