There were dozens of ducks and geese swimming along a river I was visiting today. I'm not up on duck id, but I think this is a young male mallard. What do ya think? It was nice to come across these birds as I've been in bird withdrawal for the past couple of months. We only feed the birds in the winter so I haven't seen any up close enough to capture since the first week or two of joining 365.
I think this might be a molting mallard. I have seen them like this in transition. The green head comes back after they molt. It also might be a juvenile too. I will ask my Ducks Unlimited buddies. Nice photo!
