Here's another pic of some inuksuks. In this case, they're not so much guiding the way, as advertising the amazing stones and imagination of this particular company/quarry. There may have been just a little fence and gate negotiation involved here ... I can't remember.
Here's a copy/paste of the info from a previous pic of an inukshuk: "This is an Inuksuk (pronounced In-OOK-Shook). It means "to act in the capacity of a person”. It is a spiritual, sacred and directional figure built with natural stones, deeply rooted in the Inuit (Arctic native) culture originally for the purposes of communication and survival. The traditional meaning of the Inuksuk is "Someone was here." or "You are on the right path." It had many specific uses, depending on the structure and placement.
In more recent times, it symbolizes strength, fortitude, determination and friendship. It has become a symbol of various organizations and events, including the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver [friendship and welcoming the world] and the Summit of the Americas [friendship and cooperation]."
Gosh, thank you for all that interesting information! And your lovely shot reveals the object of the description - cool! Based on your narrative, I may have to name my next dog "Inuksuk"!
I love learning about inuksuks, thanks, I have always had a bit of a "thing" for intentionally piled stones, such as various standing stones, seeing stonehenge was a thrill for me ...... actually I am drawn to massive stone structures naturally forming - Capadoccia in Turkey was fab.
Thanks for giving me other stones to enjoy
Very interesting rock formation. Great information in your post too. I enjoy when I learn something along with the photo. As they say, something new every day.
I love stone and rock piles, and even keep a collection on my counter for people to play with while I cook. My mom made a nice "stoneman," as she called it, the last time she came for dinner. This is an awesome photo! It looks and sounds like you had a wonderful time.
I love these guys:) As you know, we have a few of them around here in Vancouver. I get those bars on my shots too, even the unedited ones - wonder what causes that?
Thanks for giving me other stones to enjoy
