From the Orchid family, this Lady Slipper [Cypripedium pubescens] has been blooming around here for a few days now.
I see many of the sites on the web call them Lady's Slippers but I'll stick with the name as it's presented by the local experts at the Purdon Conservation Area, where more than 10,000 are growing. For the info of those of you around Eastern Ontario, we are fortunate to have the Purdon Conservation Area. As described at their web site, it's "famous for the three or four week orchid blooming season in June/July. The boardwalk trail (there are two interconnected loops) is wheelchair accessible and provides a close‐up view of not only the pink orchids but the yellow lady slipper, the pitcher plant and many other woodland flora... this trail is a perfect bird‐watching exercise, for it meanders through several different types of habitat."
Lucky, lucky you!! This is a wildflower that is supposed to grow in our forested areas, but I have never encountered one growing in the wild. . .nonetheless gorgeous wherever they are!
this is beautiful. i've not seen a yellow one before. you're lucky to have seen it. maybe i'll ask partner to drive around there during the long weekend and hopefully i have my new toy by then. lovely lovely shot, anne.
