Cue scary music. This is a carnivorous plant, a Drosera I think but I don't know which type. Anyone? If you can see the details of the pic, you'll see bugs already trapped in the clutches of this plant.
It's one of the many amazing sights we saw on the fen tour a few days ago. A fen is a specific type of wetland, that is mineral rich, alkaline, and usually fed by groundwater. It hosts a diverse and specific plant life. Bogs are different - they're mineral deficient, acidic and dominated by sedges, shrubs and mosses. I learned a lot in the past couple of days!
Many thanks for dropping by. Glad you all liked the Damselfly yesterday.
Neat shot....is this Ontario? I would guess Droseria rotundifolia or "Round-leafed Sundew", even though they're not reddish tipped. That's the closest I could find.
Great detail! Interesting plant and info. I didn't know there were carnivorous plants so far north. I love the droplets--I guess they lure the insects.
I've never seen them before here in South Western Ontario.....I will have to look out for them...not sure they grow where I live. The droplets really look great...makes them more scary. Reminds me of Venus Fly traps.
