I've been throwing in some pics to remind me of some great moments we've had this year. In this case, my granddaughter [almost age 6] spotted this heron off in the distance at about the same time that I did. She was ahead of me on the trail, and excitedly turned and shouted about it. The bird chose that instant to take flight.
I'm glad I have this pic to remind me of her keen eye and her excitement at catching sight of this cool looking bird. It also reminds me of the limitations of my camera. Maybe I should consider something a bit more robust, I"m just not sure how often I would carry it on hikes like this one.
Sometimes it is more about seeing it with your eyes and the memory of the moment than the technique. I don't haul my big gear around all of the time either.
