Pakenham Bridge by sunnygreenwood

Pakenham Bridge

I've included pics of this stone bridge in my 365 album several times in the past. I think this is the first I've shown it from this side. The afternoon light was nice so I walked to the bridge while Barry shopped at a nearby store for some sunflower seeds for the birds. Yup, the railing café is open for business for the winter. I haven't had time to take any pics --- just blue jays, mourning doves and chickadees visiting so far.

As for the bridge, it's a structure unique in North America, and perhaps in the whole world, outside of Russia. It is composed of five masonry arches that span 268 feet (82 m) to cross the Mississippi River in Pakenham, Ontario. It as built by Scottish stone masons in 1903. It was the subject of one of the questions on the game show Jeopardy a while back.

Many thanks for dropping by. I'm playing catchup here at 365 again - busy times.
