The next stop on the winter get-away cruise was St Thomas, US Virgin Islands. We took a "buggy" ride to Magen's Bay beach. I call it a buggy for lack of a better word. It was a cross between a van and a truck --- an open vehicle with benches and a roof of sorts. One of those really safe vehicles you've always wanted to ride in while speeding on the "wrong" side of NARROW, hilly, back roads!
Magen's Beach was nice but quite crowded when we first got there - the result of having 4 or 5 ships docked at the island at the same time. Our ship was the last to leave port so we had some extra time later in the day to enjoy the sights without the crowds. The last stop before re-boarding was to The Butterfly Garden - big disappointment. To say there's more butterflies in our gardens than they have there is not much of an exaggeration.
So instead of a pic of a beautiful butterfly on my hand, you get a pic of a curious mongoose that watched us relaxing on the beach.
Fantastic timely capture. Looks like he happily posed for you. I've been to St. Thomas three times but not since 1996. I love the views, the shops and wondered if Tom Jones, the donkey is still there :-)
@cimes1 yes, Carole, the donkey lives on, or at least a descendent of his. He was hanging out at the lookout over Magen's Bay, lookin' good in his big glasses and splashy coat. His keeper was a tad aggressive tho. We didn't pose for pics!
Hey - you don't get to see a mongoose very often on 365 so I am happy you caught this super shot. I am also sure you will get your butterfly shot later.
