I've posted pics of this bridge in the past but I think this is the first winter view I've taken. It's a special bridge, unique in North America, and perhaps in the whole world. It is composed of five masonry arches that span 268 feet (82 m) to cross the Mississippi River in Pakenham, Ontario. It as built by Scottish stone masons in 1903. Locals are proud of the fact that it was the subject of one of the questions on the popular American game show Jeopardy a while back. Alex Trebek [Canadian host] likes the Canadian questions! ;-)
Your photo has sent me off to Wikipedia - didn't know that the Mississippi was in Canada when I knew the flow started in Lake Itasca, Minnesota (where I walked across the Mississippi). Quite interesting to read about all the tributaries leading to it. What a remarkable bridge - the write up on it was so interesting. Can't imagine how many photos have probably be taken of this beauty. So many neat things you learn here! Thanks, Anne.
