Brown On Brown

These Sandpipers were almost invisible among the rocks. They look like Least Sandpipers, given their lighter coloured legs and markings.

Having said that, the description at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology says Leasts are only slightly larger than the size of a Sparrow. I think they might have been larger than that, so maybe they're not Leasts after all!

Here's a interesting fact from the Cornell site, if you're interested: "Eastern populations probably fly nonstop over the ocean from the Gulf of St. Lawrence and New England to wintering grounds in northeastern South America, a distance of about 1,800 to 2,500 miles."

Many thanks for dropping by,
Love this photo. I'm terrible at shorebirds, since I don't get to see them very often.

Nice shot...don't Sandpipers drive you crazy! They are not Dunlins....the bill is too short...I lean towards White-rumped with the heavier bill with slight droop at the tip...but I am NO expert!
