Tiananmen Square by sunnygreenwood

Tiananmen Square

Tiananmen Square is the largest public square in the world, capable of holding a million people.

This is my first view of the sea of paving stones, looking over the heads of our fellow Bus 4 travellers. Barry, off on the right had already started clicking away in the general direction of the Forbidden City, just beside the Square.

The little yellow flag belongs to our Beijing tour guide and is the one we followed like ducklings for our 3 days in Beijing!
Nice, I was there a lot when we went to school in Beijing, but my favorite was in 10-1. October first was their National day holiday, and the square was wall to wall people and decorations.

@sunnygreenwood we had a great time, but not long after we got back to the states is when the tian an men massacre happened. Now that location brings out mixed feelings at best.

I remember standing in Tiananmen square years ago and being overwhelmed by the size and history of the square. Have you been to the Temple of Heaven yet? It is one of my favorite places in Beijing.
