March was a huge month for bird seed sales around here. At least one regular suppler was sold out. In addition to the usual grosbeaks, jays, nut hatches and woodpeckers, hundreds of finches descended on us and munched through almost 10 lbs of seeds a day. For a while it was American goldfinches, then the purple finches came in huge numbers followed closely by pine siskins.
