Downy woodpeckers appear to be quite small ---except when they're all fluffed up against the cold! I had to look twice at this one, thinking maybe she was the little-bit-larger hairy woodpecker. When the overall size and the length of the bill are not obvious, the little notches on her outer tail feathers help id her as a downy.
It was a quiet weekend. Hopefully I'll get the camera out today and get a pic of something other than from my front step.
