Winter´s rose by susale

Winter´s rose

I thought I´d photograph in colours for a change ;) Seriously this is not b&w but in orginal colours, all that has been done is some contrast added. It´s a black rose in a snow, so it´s b&w by it´s own nature.

Wow. It looks like dialogue between the rose and its shadow

Very dramatic and a little bit sinister. But with a touch of beauty thrown in. It works very well.

yeh, it is dramatic, but delicate too, great

That's very effective! The shadow works well with the over-exposed leaf surfaces - great contrast here!

Susale what a interesting shot. Love the shadow and leaves. It works with the natural black and white! :)

@catherine42 Thank you so much Catherine for your lovely and insightfull comment

@happysnap Thank you Linda, yes you´re right, it does look a bit sinister but I´m glad there´s also beauty to be seen

@tstb Thank you Tim, I too think there´s a little bit drama

@exidia Thank you so much Fiona, the leafs are actually really white, it´s a artificial rose

@nanderson Thank you so much Nancy, one has to bend the rules every now and then; if I can´t shot b&w, then I´ll make the world look b&w ;)

@danitech Thank you so much Danielle, I actually only added some contrast

And now - knowing how much you love Sonata - I challenge you to take a picture that somehow is linked either to the song Replica or Don't say a word.
April 3rd, 2013
great composition and lighting! love the dramatic shadow and the contrast! looks like a rose from dark magic world!
April 3rd, 2013
@hane Well thank a lot honey :D Seriously, I´ll take that challenge and thank you for it, don´t say a word could be pretty intriguing...

@wind_of_the_sothern_sea Thank you so much Arefin, yes you´re right, I haven´t really thought it like that but it could be from dark magic world, a world very different than what you´re photographing.

@susale don't get deceived by my shots,i'm a blind fan of Tim Burton and dark stuffs!
April 3rd, 2013
@wind_of_the_sothern_sea Oh I would have never guessed, well the Tim Burton yes, cos he makes the most visually beautiful movies, he makes the dark look beautiful ( for instance the headless horseman) but knowing this I´ll defenitely look you work with a different eye from now on;)

Ria
The rose bud itself looks like it could be a shadow ....nice, even the snow has shades:)
April 4th, 2013
@sjouk Thank you Sjouk, there´s some contrast added so it looks darker than it really was but it´s not b&w

@eu4ria1 Thank you Ria, yes you´re right, it does look like a shadow.
