After a visit To Carnaby Street, I was quite saddened to see that just about every shop has now been taken over by the big chain stores that you can find on any high street in any town.
I used to regularly buy clothes here in the 70's and the 80's and there was always a large number of independent traders doing something original, outrageous and exciting. There was always an atmosphere of revolution and rebellion in the air.
This chap was the only trace of those heady days I managed to find.
Great spot. Oh dear you're going to get me ranting again about the homogenisation of everything. Not many independents can afford the rents now. We recently lost Food for Thought veggie place for that very reason.
@boxplayer Being an independent retailer myself, I know the problem well. We are not only undercut by the major chains who have much more buying power than us....... we are also undercut by people running Ebay shops from their garage and have no overheads to worry about. People will miss us when we are all gone.
