London is such an eclectic mix of architectural styles, ancient, modern, tall and thin, short and squat, conventional and quirky, beautiful and hideous. Makes it an interesting place.
I'm just a bit sad that one of my favourites, the gherkin is slowly being buried under the huge numbers of large new buildings springing up around it. It seems to be a be a beautiful rose being strangled by rampant weeds. I'm sure many will disagree and sing the praises of the Walkie talkie and the cheese grater. It's all in the eye of the beholder I suppose.
Couldn't agree more. The Gherkin has a kind of elegance to it that all of the high-rise monstrosities built since then have failed to match. The Walkie Talkie just looks wrong.
Really shows up the hotch potch of styles going on.I'm with you on this, I'm desperately worried about the total uncontrolled planning decisions and building going on. It's destroying our city, how many new buildings with 'kooky' nicknames and full of empty office space do we need? Love the Gherkin totally and have surprisingly warmed to the Shard, but enough's enough. Ha ha rant over!
