Cornish folk lore tells us, that Joseph of Arimathea once brought his young nephew (Jesus) to Cornwall, on a trip to trade for Cornish tin and copper. Which inspired William Blake to write the ever popular hymn Jerusalem.
Whether you believe such tales or not, it is a historical fact, that the Cornish regularly traded with the the ancient Greeks and Romans more than 2,000 years ago. So we have a lot of industrial heritage here in Cornwall dating back a very long way.
This is an old engine house dating back to Victorian times. It used to house a huge steam engine, which was used to pump water out of the mine shafts, so the miners could work the seams of copper tin silver and arsenic.
I know that hymn very well......it was the 'school hymn' at my posh school and we had to sing it at term start and end.....Lovely old building this..........
