Funky bug..........

I was about to put some garden waste in our giant garden waste bin, ready for recycling. As soon as I opened the lid, this rather large bug climbed to the surface and looked at me.

I have no idea what sort of bug it is, but it was very cute, the way it waved it's frilly antennae at me before it flew away. I assumed it was it's way of saying thank you for rescuing me.

it is absolutely wonderful - I think it might be a Cockchafer Beetle - those antennae are marvellous!

Like Annie D says, a Cockchafer. Get a lot of them in my moth trap this time of year.

Yes, it's a May beetle. A huge pest in gardens and parks. The worst are the larvae that destroy the root system of plants.
