Britain's National Bird? by swillinbillyflynn

Britain's National Bird?

There is a poll going on at the moment to choose Britain's national bird.

It is currently the robin but a short list of ten has been drawn up to choose from, which includes such birds as the barn owl, the blue tit, the hen harrier, the puffin and the mute swan.

You can go and cast your vote over here if you wish. http://www.votenationalbird.com/

They are all clamouring for my attention at the moment. I have a blue tit who is constantly battering at my windows to get my attention. This little fellow was out on the hustings this morning singing his own praises. I half expect to see a puffin knocking on my door to offer me a beak full of pilchards if I vote for him.

Not sure how I'll vote yet. but I must admit, this little chap is very appealing.
Fantastic shot. Very sharp. I must admit I am very immature and giggle every time I see a blue tit. That is a great collection of birds to choose from.

Haha - love it. This is a(nother) superb shot. There is a drive for the blackbird but please "no" - Robin or Kingfisher for me.

A beautiful shot -- and one of my favourites -- its a toss between the Robin , blackbird and most of all the little Wren for me !-- fav and follow !

Can't beat the Robin 😀

That is a fine capture, as to the vote I'm inclined towards the Wren, the little bird with a big bird mentality!

He is indeed appealing - I do love a robin. This looks like a cheery specimen and I like the way the moss (?) on the post echoes his chest

Great capture. It will be interesting to see what they choose
Here in Canada we do not have an official bird

Probably should be a chicken covered in orange breadcrumbs

Bri
A fantastic close up, but for me ,it's got to be the Kingfisher
March 22nd, 2015
@bri999 I suspected that might be the caxe Bri....... not sure what gave me that impression. :)

@steveandkerry Nice idea.... isn't that the official bird of Kentucky.

Being a bit of a Goth at heart, I'm disappointed that the raven hasn't made the short list. :)

@bkbinthecity It's got to be the Canada Goose hasn't it. It's the bird We in the UK always associate with Canada anyway. :)

@pistache We always see this particular one when we visit Heligan, He is always in the same place and always pops out to see us. He is very tame.

@ellisroger I like the kingfisher..... Still disappointed that the raven didn't make the list though.

Poor Delores is devastated that the herring gull was left out. :)

Fav for a fantastic robin shot. It's certainly the most photographed bird on 365.

Fav I don't know which to vote for either. It is so hard to decide as I love all the little birds for one reason or another. They are all lovely

Such a beautiful picture of a beautiful bird. I love robins.

mine would be a peregrine falcon, well if the USA have a bald Eagle we have to compete with that.
