The Wishing Tree

The practice of hammering coins into fallen tree trunks is said to bring good luck. It is a tradition which dates back hundreds of years and is believed to have originated as a way making an offering to the tree spirits or maybe even the old Pagan Lord of the wildwood.

Many ancient coins have been found embedded in the heart of ancient trees up and down the country when they fall and are cut up for firewood. This particular example is in The Lost Gardens of Heligan.
I have never seen this before! That is such a neat practice and neat looking too! Nice shot and thank you for sharing!

Hmm. I never heard of hammering coins into trees for good luck. It beats running around New York looking for a fountain.
