Alone Together

I watched this couple sitting here for about 20 minutes and they didn't exchange a word or even look at each, so totally engrossed in their mobile phones.

I have to say, that I get really annoyed with people who sit there with you in a pub and spend all evening texting somebody else rather than interacting with the people they are with. I always think "if you would rather be talking to somebody else, why didn't you go out with them rather than with us".

But then, I neither own nor want a mobile phone. I have a landline at work and a landline at home I also have internet access in both locations...... and when I'm out, I'm bloody well out. When I'm having a romantic walk along the prom with my beloved wife (and my beloved camera), the last thing I want to know is that so and so has just been voted out of the Big Brother house or to know that Bob has just split up with Alice.

I am fairly sure the world can get along just fine without my constant supervision and input. In fact I suspect it is probably a much better place without my interference. :)

Oh, how I agree with your rant - in-bloody-deed...

Oh, hang on, back in a second, have to check this text...

My Spousal Unit has become One with his mobile. I have to insist on phone-less outings or he will pull it out in a lull, and I'll lose him for an hour. He insists it's business, I insist he's just being an inconsiderate ass

@melston I am glad to hear other people fight with this! I think it is underestimated how disturbing and alienating it is if just one of the people can't live without the "device". We have conversations about it so often!

@melston I hear you!!!

Excellent shot and yes, the sooner we get of the phones the sooner we'll talk to each other...probably texting each other...

My mobile phone is always wanting charging up even though I rarely use it. I forget to take it all the time but I just can't be bothered with it. In the waiting room at the hospital this morning it was funny watching everyone just sitting there looking at their screens.
What a miserable waste of time for this young couple.. ... They should be whispering sweet nothings!!

It's a fact of life today for the younger generation. Look at their surroundings - there must be something to see, something to look at. They are totally oblivious - why did they actually go out in the first place? I think we are going to have a whole generation, or two, that really don't know how to communicate face to face. Great shot Billy.

It's a sad progression :)

That's a great capture. I'd like to put in a bid for everything in moderation ... I love my phone for the way it keeps me connected with all kinds of things and people (and photographs) ... but I also like to talk to people and take in my surroundings :) Amazing that these two could be so preoccupied with their devices for so long, especially when it looks like they're sitting somewhere pretty special!

Clare says it......
They do distance you from people when used like that.
My god-daughter who I love dearly, has hers in her hand constantly & refers to it all the time she's talking. I do wish she wouldn't.....
