It's a Flicker, MaryBeth! by tara11

It's a Flicker, MaryBeth!

I was wandering around my yard when this pretty bird flew overhead. I had never seen anything like him and only got one shot of him (obviously) before he flew away.

Thank you for faithfully stopping by to look and comment on my photos. I so appreciate every one of you!

Update: It's a Flicker, MaryBeth (@espyetta)
It's a Flicker- he's in the wood pecker family and sounds like he's laughing when he's calling out around his territory. Distinguishing marks- bright red cap on head and a golden yellow throat with speckled breast, long piercing beak for digging out those lovely bugs in the trunks of trees.

Good capture -- I was going to suggest lesser speckled tree climber but I made that up.

@olivetreeann Thanks Ann! I knew that someone would know. He was so pretty. I'm going to have to just camp out in my yard one afternoon and wait for all these cool birds.

wow, what a great find and capture, had one fly in front of my car once in Vermont, I stopped and he jujst seemed stunned took him home and put him in an open cardboard box in garage on a towel...went to check on him an hour later..opened the garage, and he flew out and away...a good ending

Whoo hoo! a FLICKER? For realz? haha So this was back in the fall, huh? No, I think I missed that one! haha Thanks for sending. Day 4 or Fast Week has been easy breezy ..so far. But I did get bitten by a spider this morning and it was a big bite with a red blood blister looking thing in the middle. I was about to go to the doctor in case it might have been a Brown Recluse spider (they hide in dark places in houses and basements) but then I read online on some trustworthy medical sites/research that they are not even sure that medical treatments help with those bites. I am watching it... It SEEMS to be shrinking and getting better...
