I wanted to try out the kit 55-200 lens I had sitting around, and macro tubes. I am giving it away to a friend, but I think I it is far, far worse with the VR on, like some other lenses I have been seeing lately.
@koalagardens that is what jumped out at me also. The macro tube made it fade out really smoothly.
The moral of my rambling is that is you have an off brand or cheaper lens, try to use it with the vibratuon reduction turned off and you might find your I ages are quite a bit sharper.
