The flock... by thewatersphotos

The flock...

I'm not sure you call a group of Buzzards a flock, but it seems appropriate. This is only part of the flock flying over in a circle. Not a super photo, but documents the vast number.
Wow! We only get them in ones or twos, I've never seen so many iat one time before.

I love the confetti-like sprinkling of the birds across the pretty sky and, also, the vertical orientation of your image, which contributes to the feeling of looking up! Great shot, Gary!

Thank you for your kind comments on my pictures throughout my experiment. Very helpful!

Wow so many buzzards flying around...quite a sight to see. Do they swoop a bit or fly in a more sombrely manor?

Amazing!! Are buzzards like vultures?

According to Wikipedia a group of buzzards/vulture in flight is called a kettle.

Yikes... that is a vast quantity of birds.

We get to see them in Michigan in the spring and summer. I think they are very interesting...have never seen this many at once!

Cool. A little research turned up this answer. Flock is ok to describe a group of any kind of birds. A group of turkey buzzards or vultures can be called a committee, a venue, a volt, a wake.

@k9photo Ah! Thanks, Kate. Somehow, I didn't think "flock" was correct.

@kvphoto Indeed it was.

@amyk We see them year round here. This was a lot at a time. I didn't want to be right under them.

As @k9photo noted, a group of vultures in the air is a kettle (makes sense if you've seen them swirling in circles and compered it to stirring a pot or kettle), it's a committee on the ground, and a wake when on the ground feeding (no doubt they are celebrating and giving thanks for the deceased).
