As a mother and a vegan, I have mixed feelings about the zoo. As far as animal rights go, I have a real problem with it (although I do appreciate their conservation efforts), but as a mother, it's hard to keep my children away. They love to see the animals and I believe, in some way, it gives them compassion for them. My son was completely conflicted today. He wants to be an "animal saver". He wanted to set all the animals free, but also enjoyed seeing them there. He told me tonight he wants me to help him become a vegetarian and he reiterated his interest in helping animals when he grows up. I love his heart.
