Mărțișor

In Romania there's this tradition on the first of March. People give each other small objects (usually bought, but often self-made) that have red and white thread tied to them, as a symbol of friendship, love, appreciation or respect.
It is nowadays seen as an emblem of the beginning of spring, but this old tradition has its roots in daco-thracians or romans (either one of our ancestors), to whom it used to be a symbol of the new year, which would start in March.
It's called Mărțișor (translated "little March") and to me it's the most awesome tradition ever!
I recieved this particular one some years ago from my cousin and it's the only one I took with me to Finland (I had full bags of these in Bucharest).
Beautiful shot! Nice tradition.
