Rope Men by tonygig

Rope Men

This is a very old Photograph of the Men who kept the haulage's and Ropes running down the Pit, Without these men supplies could not get up to the coalface. This roadway was pitch black and the only light came from the men's cap lamps. ( no flash ). Pick Me Out.
Wow, amazing capture. Love it, even though I can't pick you out.

Thank you all very much for your comments, this photo was taken about 40 years ago and these men worked with me for eighteen years, I was in charge of all the Rope Haulage's down this mine and loved every day, it was very hard work but I loved it,( I am third from the right). Glad you all liked this look into the past.

@tonygig was this at annesley or bentick. My Grandad worked at Alfreton.

@padlock It was Annesley, this shot was taken in the pit bottom. It used to be a family pit until We teamed up with Bentick and Newstead a few years before the pit closed in 1994, the it was taken over by a private firm but then finished in 2000.

Fantastic vintage shot - it should be in a mining museum. A part of history.

Wow -- it took me a bit you meant you were there when it was taken, not photoshopped in. What an amazing history and experience this must have been, and what hard work! I've always found mines to be scary -- just the thought of being so deep, and then when I've had the chance to go into mines, all I want to do is get up to the surface. What a fantastic image to have captured and saved.
