Kawimbash, the Ojibwa name for this river meaning deep hollow river. The common name today is the
Temperance River, so given folklore says, since there is no bar where it enters Lake Superior. The Kawimbash cuts it's way trough layers of basalt forming narrow hollow canyons, kettles and dramatic waterfalls on it's way to the big lake.
