A wonderful place along Hwy 61. at Cut Face Creek, one can see the various lava flows from the Great Rift Zone. The bottom red zone is a sedimentary rock formed at the bottom of a lake during a lull in volcanic activity and then compressed by heat and various lava flows. Underneath this layer is more basalt, and above in this photo one can see 3 separate lava flows.
Gorgeous layers and color!
