Construction of the church started in 1783 and was completed in 1797. The labor was done by
members of the O'odham people. The tribal lands passed from New Spain to Mexico to the US The "White Dove of the Desert, a national historic landmark, is under the care of the parish and a local non-profit. Mass is held daily.
