Locked out

Our neighbour passed away in April. His gate is locked. His cattle and horses left. When I was out in the paddock today they all came over to the fence to watch me. It made me so sad. It was as if they were missing human company. Reminds one how important it is to value every day.
Such a sad story.
While my BIL still farms the family farm, it's a bit like this in the nearby farms - all of the old guard are growing old and leaving / dying and there's nobody taking their place.

This is sad. I hope someone is looking after those animals. You are right. We never know how quickly things can change. We do need to be reminded to value each day.

Great shot, and important reminder. Such a shame about the animals :(

@pyrrhula How true. My thoughts precisely.

@alia_801 @ellida @jo365 Thanks for dropping by. I could have photographed the animals but I thought the locked gate was a more symbolic image of what I was experiencing.

@vernabeth The animals are fine. A close friend drops by regularly to check on their welfare while the estate solicitors do their thing.

@corymbia Yes, its our rural lifestyle as we know it is under threat. Our farms around here are being sold up to 'visiting" farmers who buy the land, work their shifts in mining related industries and visit the farm on their the days off. Change is very hard to adjust to and accept.

And they call it all progress, not for the rural communities though.
