On opening Google today I discovered their icon was a tribute to our famous Australian poet - Dorothea Mackellar.
Many times when I look out across our country I think of her, in England, homesick and penning the verses for her poem "My Country" the second verse of which I quote today. The poem was first published in 1911 and was originally called "Core of My Heart".
Mackellar was a third generation Australian born on Ist July, 1885 hence the Google tribute today.
