On our early morning trip to Rockhampton today we were delayed on the Yeppen Floodplain Crossing by a car accident. In January travellers were held up for three weeks by the floodwaters that spread across this floodplain of the Fitzroy River. This is not surprising because the Fitzroy has the largest catchment of any river on the Eastern Coast of Australia and all that rain had to find its way to the sea some how. But what a pretty site it was today- the colours brilliant in the early morning sunlight.
