Poised for Lunch

This kookaburra is a regular visitor to the garden. He is enjoying the soft soil caused by recent rain. Here he is poised ready to dive. With whatever sense he uses, he waits until something catches his attention then dives down and spears that dagger beak into the soft soil and another grub becomes a delicious morsel to add to his lunch menu.

Wonder catch of this kookaburra. Brings back wonderful memories from when my husband and I lived in Australia, a year and a half at Puckapunyal and six months in Townsville. The bird watching there was one of my favorite things!
