Mum's next door neighbour when they were children remained a close family friend for all of her 92 years. He loved wood and at 80 years of age made her a beautiful red cedar jewel case. Today's challenge made me think of this case. When I took it from the cupboard where it was buried with other memories I found to my delight these two forgotten pieces - her engagement ring and a little heart given to her by one of her beloved nieces.
Lovely. In a former life, I was a scientist and I looked into growing red cedar in plantations (difficult due to tip moth attack). Plantations would be ruined by this insidious little grub..... and then I worked in FNQ and saw log after log of red cedar come into the yards for sale .... they grew as weeds inside the hoop pine plantations and were thinned out and sold as they matured .... so a surrogate plantation worked!
