How many toads can you fit in one hole?
This is a something I've not seen before, cane toads having a communal soak. The rain water tank is leaking and last night I saw these, part of a group of 15 at least, crowded into the little pool of water at the base of the tank. They are an introduced species that were brought into Queensland in the 1930s to help eradicate cane beetles - an unsuccessful experiment. Now they are a menace and have spread right across the top end of Australia and south into New South Wales.
How interesting. I think man is better off leaving nature to develop without help. Cool capture all these not so beautiful toads. You asked about the frame on my water drops. iPiccy has a mirror frame on it's sitel
I am having a "torn" moment here. Am trying to think photography - good one but can't get "environment "off my mind. It is heart breaking to think of the number of species now extinct because of this cane toad scourge
@ethelperry totally know where you're coming from. I have a letter written to my mum in 1938 from a friend who had seen them on display at the Townsville show. She was telling mum how ugly they were but what a boon they were going to be and look what they have done in the seventy years they have been in Australia.
@jan11 thanks Jan. 15 looking at you on mass was awesome. Every so often one would dart out and snap up a passing insect abd and then nestle back into the crowd.
We have a similar problem with the muskusrat of bisamrat (Ondatra zibethicus) They damage our dike`s . Therefore they are be hunted.
Great capture nevertheless.
