Molangul is one of the original cattle runs established in early Queensland around 1854. The Galen family leased the land - their original lease being approximately 105square miles in size. Newspaper reports from the 1880s report mobs of around 1100 bullocks(male cattle) being driven to markets from the property. You can imagine the size of the workforce needed to handle such an enormous number of cattle. In 1929 an organiser from the Worker's Union described the station's living quarters for the men as, "very fine accommodation... The rooms are large and well ventilated, with two verandas rear and front, and with the back veranda cemented for the purpose of washing, etc. This accommodation stands amongst the best I have seen.' Still looks pretty grand today.
There was an old TV show called "Bonanza" about a cattle ranch called the Ponderosa and the family of men who ran it. Sometimes they would show the bunkhouse, and it always looked very roomy. Of course, that was all on a sound stage, and this is the real thing. The Galen family must have been a good group to work for. Love your shot and the information.
