Queensland Alumina Limited, Parsons Point, Gladstone. My grandson has just bought himself his first house looking out over this area where his great-great grandfather came to work in the meatworks and where my mother was born in a canvas tent 100 years ago on the 4th January, 1915. Someone from every generation of our family since has worked in this area at some time either as a meatworker or later in the alumina industry. Time flies. As we stood and reflected today, it was hard to believe that 50 years have passed since my husband left his corn picking job and went to work for "the big money to be had" during QAL's construction period 1963-7 which followed the closure of the meatworks in 1962.
A visually interesting shot made more so by your story of family history. I understand the importance of mythology of place as I represent the third of four generations of my family to work at Carlsbad Caverns National Park. It is wonderful your grandson has chosen the same area to be his home.
