During the night our young heifers found a gate open and we woke to find them, heads buried, feasting on the long grass growing around the cattle yards. They were in two groups on either side of the loading ramp (right) and their calves were having whoopee racing between each group tails up, bucking and kicking and thoroughly enjoying the freedom afforded them while their Mums were preoccupied with eating. Such a funny sight to see. They gave us a good laugh to start the day.
Oh, what a way to start the day! Aren't you glad you've had rain so the grass enticed them to stick around? Thanks for grabbing your camera so you could share the story with us.
My son had a university class on ranch grasses, and he says that this is a type of "ice cream" grass. Do you use that term in Australia? It means that it is empty calories, but the cows love eating it because it tastes so good.
