Aug15word - musical. When I looked at the list I thought, "If I can see a butcherbird I'll photograph him for musical." While having lunch this one appeared. How lucky am I? They have a lovely voice and one of their calls has five notes based around the perfect fifth. They are also excellent mimics. Often while they rest mid-afternoon or if they are sheltering from rain you'll hear them practising the calls of other birds with a few farmyard sounds thrown in for good measure. This one is looking a little wind blown today but there is a cutting south-wester blowing so he can be excused. They usually look very dapper in their smart white suits and black bibs.
I listened to a utube video of a butcherbird and was entranced! How clever and almost like a parrot! He's got a head and a beak like magpies who are also clever as a mimic!
