It was my birthday yesterday and we travelled to Rockhampton, Beef Capital Of Australia. Statues of bulls representing the many different breeds of cattle in our tropical North are scattered along the A1 State Highway that passes through the city. This Santa Gertrudis bull dominates Frank Forde park on the southern entrance. Forde has the historical honour of holding the Prime Ministership for the shortest period - just one week in July 1945. However he was the parliamentary member for Rockhampton for 24 years and was the youngest member of the Queensland Parliament when he first entered politics in 1917.
He's a magnificent specimen, isn't he Margaret? Very representative of the area. Co-incidentally we'll be in Rocky next weekend en route to Mt Isa - looking forward to seeing the rodeo there!
Happy birthday to you Margaret. Best wishes for this year and many years to come. This looks like a magnificent bull. I would be sorry, though, to see them going to the slaughter house. Well raising cattle is not my calling so, perhaps, that's why I am sorry for them.
