We had a bit last night but so far the big wet they forecast has passed us by.
It was really interesting getting your comments on my backyard birds Margaret and the seeing the differences and similarities between the city and rural bird populations. Your comments on the loss of habitat of the Pale Headed Rosella and the disappearance of Curlews from your landscape were a bit of a worry.
As I said in the wrap up of the series, the number of birds and the variety of species we get here, so close to the city, I think is amazing and a lot of that has to do with the fact that we are in a very leafy suburb.
But even that is changing for the worse because of the attitude of the council towards higher density living. Two doors from us was a house on a large block with quite a few large gum trees that were home or at least roosting sites for many birds, possums etc. The house was recently sold and the new owner has now demolished the house, sub-divided the land into 3 shitty, narrow, blocks and removed all but 2 of the smaller trees.
Its called "development". I call it urban vandalism
