dreary day decadence

So today was one of those dull, rainy, cold, generally blah days. I really didn't want to grade and my wife was teaching all day - so to welcome her home to the smell of baking, I made my signature "Michael's Mexican Hot Chocolate Cookies," inspired from watching Chocolat a few too many times. Dark powdered chocolate, dark chocolate chips, almonds, cinnamon, and yes the cayenne kicker! They're great with a glass of red wine. (Don't usually think cookies and wine, do you?). I just loved the rich browns in these cookies so much that I had to capture them.
Looks yummy! Wine goes with everything.

Yummy. I discovered white wine and dark chocolate are a wonderful combination. Chocolat inspired me to find a recipe for a cake that looks like the one in the film. Bad influence.

The color and texture are perfectly captured. Who knew that browns could be so captivating?
