Here in the Midwest, I feel like it hasn't been until only recently that fresh, tasty figs have made it into our grocery stores. My first fresh fig was in Georgia in 1991 when Georgia was still a part of the USSR. I fell in love then with this fruit that, truth be told, really, really looks like uterus. I had to say it.
Oh I love a fig. They are so good in a low temp oven, like real low, sprinkled with balsamic vinegar and a bit of goat cheese and a tad bit of salt. Delish!!! Beautiful warm photo and remembrance!
Fresh ricotta cheese from Whole Foods, with fresh herbs (feel free to take cuttings from our side yard if you need any) mixed into the cheese, a dollop on top of half a fig -- yum. That's such a cool photo. Makes my mouth water . . .
Not too keen on fresh figs.
