No, we did not go to Geibi-kei (Geibi Gorge) on the 25th, but I already filled up my 3 albums with images of Chūson-ji before recalling that we bussed here in the afternoon of that fantastic morning. So here is the final point in the "fune kudari" or flat boat trip up the river guided by a young, enthusiastic woman. She and her large pole lead us up the river through some fantastic gorges carved out millennia ago by a river, ala the Grand Canyon. Though not that large in scale, the ride was pleasant and the walk at the end led us to this fantastic outcropping with the perfect reflection of the blue-gray gorge enveloping several of my students. We returned as we came, but with a serenade of a evocatively sung folk song from Hokkaido by our poleswoman as she brought us back to the start of our trip. The song is captured nicely in this YouTube video. (Listen for the rhythmic striking of the pole in the river while she sings). I have to redo the video part, as the images came out in a very low resolution. http://youtu.be/eTEM9NWaniE
