This is my prize possession of a piece of Bizen-yaki made in Okayama Prefecture, Japan. Bizen is Japan's oldest pottery-making technique, dating back to the Heian period (794 -1185). They fire pottery only once or twice a year and keep the kilns burning for nearly 2 weeks to fire the pottery. I think this vase shows off its characteristic rust color nicely. The woven strip is something that I made on a trip to our sister school in Niigata Prefecture. The silk weaving is famous and referred to as Shiozawa-tsumugi, which has been designated as a traditional craft by the Japanese government.
Beautiful perspective. My brain tells me it is a flt leading into the pottery, but then it convinces me the pot is sitting on a tower of matterial. Great capture
I like the presentation of the treasured piece, and the yellow lighting for it. It goes without saying that I like the woven thingy, too :) Shall I post a photo of you making it?
